Developmental Delay in Babies and Toddlers

There are many different reasons for a baby not meeting their milestones, but sadly, a very common cause of developmental delay nowadays is modern parenting habits rather than any underlying medical issue!

As a result of these modern parenting habits, Developmental Delay is now one of the most common conditions we treat as paediatric physiotherapists. The good news? Small and simple changes can make a big difference. It is our privilege and joy to teach parents these changes so that they can help their little ones achieve their milestones and boost their physical development.

Signs of Developmental Delay

Newborns

  • Baby not lifting their head

  • Baby not moving arms and legs equally

  • Very floppy or stiff

  • Baby not rolling

  • Hates tummy time

Infants

  • Baby not rolling both ways

  • Baby not sitting independently

  • Baby not crawling or skipped crawling

  • Baby not standing or weight bearing through feet.

Toddlers

  • Toddler-age but not walking

  • Toddler not running

  • Toddler falls a lot

  • Toddler can't climb stairs

  • Walks only on toes, or with feet pointing inwards or outwards

If your baby is taking a little longer to reach their milestones, book a consultation for tailor-made advice on how to stimulate their development.

This can be a remote session or a home visit with one of our specialist paediatric physiotherapists (within the greater London area).

You can help your baby to catch up their gross motor milestones! Let us teach you how!

Testimonials

"We feel really lucky to have found Lisa after our baby was born at 29 weeks weighing just 460g, and needed physio to help with his physical development.

Thomas spent over three months in hospital and had small brain bleeds at birth.

Lisa started working with us when he was four months old and immediately put our minds at ease. She was so wonderful with him from the beginning, and it was clear that he felt so comfortable with her.

We'd seen so many medical professionals and specialists for his development at this point but he really connected with Lisa which was lovely to see.

Lisa gave us detailed activities and exercises for Thomas to do in between visits, which helped so much with his development. He is now walking around and keeping us constantly on our toes!

We will always be grateful to Lisa for all her help and support and wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to any other parents looking for a physiotherapist."

Testimonials

We were blessed to find you, with the treatment Alex received from you, he managed to recover from a quite severe torticollis in only two months! I would highly recommend you to anyone who’s children suffer from a similar diagnosis. We also no longer require the helmet for the flat head as the treatment helped for that as well. Thank you so, so much!

- Anastasia and baby Alex

Lisa helped my twins in the first six months to overcome tightness and restricted movement in their necks. Given they’d been a little more compressed in the womb, Archie had a slight flat head. Lisa gave us practical tips to help support both their physical development and followed up every appointment with an easy-to-follow guide which is really helpful. l highly recommend Lisa.

“We are very grateful for all of your help, without which his neck and head would not have improved to this extent.

Thank you once again for all of your help over the summer - he is a very happy little boy who smiles a lot!"
